The Wine and Cheese Party is held at the usual spot, the Westburn Community Center. It is open to all members, their family, and their friends. The party is always enhanced by the active presence of children and grandchildren of club members.

The party begins with an hour of conversation, drinks, and munchies after which the following entertainment begins:

• The "DCC Players" produce and perform entertaining skits.
• Live music with the DCC orchestra, "The Dogwood Blowhards".
• Christmas carol sing-a-long with "The Dogwood Blowhards".
• Photo contest for the best scenery, action, and humour.
• Raffle of a paddling related item.
• Traditional gift to the outgoing President of the club.
• Presentation of the "Good Fellow Award".
• Laughter and good times.

The club supplies wine, cheese, and crackers. Club members and guests are requested to bring a dish to share, such as sweets, horsd'oeuvres, vegies, and snacks. Help is always appreciated to setup the tables and decorated the hall.

Good Fellow Award Details
The annual "Good Fellow Award" is given to a non-executive member who has made a significant contribution to the club over the preceding year.

In August 1971, Bob Lornie and Dinty Moore reported that on the Thompson River trip, they had the good fortune to run into a group of photographers filming a Japanese commercial for Suntory Beer. The members on the trip, as well as a group of Boy Scouts, were persuaded to be part of the commercial and were actually filmed in their canoes with deer peeking on. Part of the persuasion was the beer itself, along with T-shirts, and one huge trophy. The trophy became the Dogwood's "Good Fellow Award", to be awarded annually to a member who has made a significant contribution of time and effort to the club.
